Testing

To drive in Oregon, you need a valid driving privilege. Getting one means passing three tests: a vision test, a knowledge test, and a drive test.

Vision Test

DMV checks that you can see well enough to drive safely. There is no fee for this test. If you wear glasses or contacts during the test, your license will note that corrective lenses are required.

If you do not pass, DMV gives you a form to take to a vision specialist.

Knowledge Test

This test covers road signs, traffic laws, and safe driving information. It has 35 multiple-choice questions. You need 28 correct to pass.

Two ways to take it: online anytime at DMV2U.Oregon.gov, or in person at a DMV office. The test is available in several languages, with or without audio.

Drive Test

This is a scheduled, in-person test where you drive with a DMV examiner. You will need to bring a passenger vehicle that is registered, insured, and in safe working condition.
